Lincoln County Fair & Rodeo Livestock Rules
- Everyone exhibiting livestock at the Lincoln County Fair & Rodeo will abide by the National Show Ring Code of Ethics.
- All market steers, lambs, hogs and goats will be required to submit a completed Quality Assurance Form at the time of weigh in. No Form, No Weigh in, No Exhibit, No Sale.
- Contact Fair Office, Department Superintendent or WSU Lincoln County Extension Office for Quality Assurance Forms.
- All livestock exhibitors and parents/guardians must sign Lincoln County Fair & Rodeo Waiver and Consent Form (parents sign for minors).
- The Lincoln County Fair Advisory Board will take every precaution in its power for the safe preservation of all livestock, but in no way will the Board be responsible for any loss of, or injury of any character to any livestock while same is on the grounds, or at any time or place.
- All livestock entry forms & fees must be received by the Fair Office by August 2nd.
- Entries received after that date will be subject to availability of space.
- All livestock exhibitors must have season passes before receiving an exhibitor number.
- Livestock superintendents will designate an area for each club from entries and make barn charts Sunday prior to fair, so clubs & open exhibitors can plan ahead.
- No switching at the last minute without approval from department superintendent.
- The market class for each department will be judged separately by weight subject to the Barn Superintendent discretion.
- Each division, 4-H, FFA and Open will be judged separately subject to the Barn Superintendent discretion.
- An overall barn champion will be awarded to each market subject to the Barn Superintendent discretion.
- Livestock and animals entered in the wrong classes may be reclassified by the superintendent, but exhibitors are not allowed to change or withdraw their entries after the opening of the fair.
- All animals must be in place by 9:00 pm on August 21st, with the exception of Open Horses & Mules.
- Stall cards must be displayed at each exhibit stall by 8:00 am August 22nd.
- Exhibitors shall furnish their own grain, hay, feed and water buckets for their animals.
- Exhibitors will be responsible for their animals’ care until their animal is loaded out on Sunday.
- No hay or straw bales are to be used behind animals.
- Do not throw wire or bale twin in manure dump.
- Livestock must be fitted to breed standards before 8:00 am daily.
- All livestock exhibitors shall be responsible for cleaning out pens or stalls by 8:00 am each day.
- Safety ties must be provided for beef and dairy cattle.
- There will be no abuse to any livestock, domestic or exotic animals permitted on the Fairgrounds.
- Any abuse seen will be reported to the Fair Advisory Board.
- Penalties for such abuse could be loss of premiums, ejection from the Fair, no sale of livestock and/or criminal action.
- Paints, dyes, and cleaners not designed for animal use may be harmful to livestock and the general public and use of these products are prohibited.
- Any livestock exhibitor violating rule # 22 will be asked to remove his/her livestock from the fairgrounds and will not be eligible for sale of livestock and all premiums will be forfeited.
- Do not use oil products on hogs.
- All animals/fowl will be inspected by the Fair & Rodeo veterinarian.
- The use of fireproof decorations in barns is strongly recommended.
- Anyone wishing to exhibit any other animal not listed in the premium book should contact the Fair Office before August 2nd, to make arrangements with the appropriate superintendent.
- No animal will be allowed to cross enter more than one class, from 4-H to FFA or to Open.
- An animal may compete in only one section.
- No exhibitor may weigh more than two market hogs, lambs, steers & goats. (ex: no pens of 3)
- Grand Champion and Reserve Champion awards will be given only to blue ribbon winners in both breeding and market classes at judge’s discretion.
- Grand Champion & Reserve Champion ribbons will only be awarded if there are at least 5 exhibits in each section or lot.
- Adults, leaders and parents are required to allow 4-H and FFA members to do their own preparation and showing of all livestock.
- Violation of this can cause forfeiture of premium points.
- Appropriate dress code for 4-H and FFA will be required.
- Dress code for 4-H is as follows:
a. jeans or slacks with a long sleeve collared shirt or blouse that is tucked in.
b. shirts and blouses are to be buttoned to within 1 or 2 buttons from the top.
c. boots are highly recommended, but clean, heavy athletic shoes that are laced to the top
and tied or a similar leather shoe can be substituted.
d. no baseball hats are to be worn in the show or sale ring.
e. the dress code applies to both showing and the livestock sale. - Dress code for FFA members is as follows:
a. must show in official dress consisting of black pants, white collared shirt, FFA tie or scarf
and FFA jacket.
b. all clothing should be clean and in good repair.
c. jewelry is discouraged, it can be dangerous. - If an exhibitor has two animals in the same class, the exhibitor should arrange for some other 4-H, FFA and Open Junior/Teen member to show one of the animals.
- Market hogs weighing over 300 lbs and market lambs over 150 lbs will not be able to compete for Overall Grand or Reserve Champion Market animal for their species.
- All overweight animals will be allowed to go through the sale last in their department.
- In any case of sickness or other emergency which might result in the early removal of an animal on display at the Fair, such removal must be cleared through the exhibitor’s leader and department superintendent.
- A veterinarian will be called regarding any other questions about health or welfare of the exhibited animals.
- Other than sickness, or other health reasons, all animals will remain in place until 9:00 am August 25th.
- On Sunday, August 25th, all exhibitors, who have animals must help take down pens.
- All animals need to be removed from barns by 12:00 pm on Sunday, August 25th.
- Violation of any one of these rules may lead to forfeiture of premium points and removal of exhibitor and exhibits from the Fair & Rodeo.
